At CreekSide Family Dentistry we use digital radiography which allows us to take X-rays using 50-70% less radiation versus conventional X-rays. We recommend getting new X-Rays every 1 to 2 years as they can reveal problems on areas we cannot see unaided.
Dental exams are an important part of preventive oral health care. During a dental exam, the dentist or hygienist will clean your teeth and identify any concerns. We will evaluate your risk of developing tooth decay and other oral health problems, as well as check your head and neck. A dental exam might also include dental X-rays or other diagnostic procedures.
In teeth that have deep pits and grooves, a plastic-like material is painted onto the biting surfaces to seal these grooves. The sealants are painless and provide an extra level of protection against decay. CreekSide Family Dentistry typically recommends sealants to patients between the ages of 6 to 19 as a preventative measure to fight cavity formations.
Tooth decay is a disease afflicting teeth. To help reduce the incidence of tooth decay, CreekSide Family Dentistry uses Fluoride treatments to prevent it or reverse the progression of cavities. Our preferred in-office treatment is Fluoride foam applied through the use of a mouth tray. The treatment generally takes 1 to 2 minutes and patients should not rinse, eat, smoke, or drink for at least 30 minutes after application. Most insurances cover the cost of this treatment, but we always check to make sure.
Teeth cleaning (also known as prophylaxis) is a procedure for removing stains and bacteria from teeth and from under the gums, especially in areas that are difficult to reach. At CreekSide Family Dentistry prophys are done by one of our highly skilled dental hygienists. In our office a typical cleaning consists of evaluation of teeth and tissue. We take the time to assess each patient’s questions and concerns.
